First of all my apologies for the lack of information or updates publicly about TYMBA since our National Championships in September 2019.
More than a year ago, I told the TYMBA committee and membership that I would not be seeking re-election as Chair in 2020. This also followed Dave Wood at the 2019 AGM saying that he would also be standing down after many years with the association. With the vice-chair position also vacant this had the potential to leave TYMBA with a very uncertain future as it would not have been able to fulfil its constitutional duties.
The TYMBA AGM 2020 which was due to be held in February had to be postponed as there were still no nominations received to fill the three positions, and so a Special General Meeting had to be called which could have seen the association close.
I am pleased to say that at that meeting held online in May, two people ‘virtually’ stepped forward, nominating themselves to lead TYMBA into the future.
At our rescheduled AGM to be held online on Sunday 14th June, the bandmasters of our member bands will be asked to vote for Claire Stacey, bandmaster of Burgess Hill Marching Youth and Paul Binder, Band Director of the Romford Drum and Trumpet Corps as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively.
Sam Hewitt our current Membership Secretary will stand for the Treasurer position. I have put myself forward to take over as Membership Secretary until a new nominee can be found, Steph Cottrell will also stay as Secretary of the association until next year.
I hope that our members back Claire and Paul, and make sure TYMBA can continue with its focus of supporting bands, especially as we adapt to the ‘new normal’ following the coronavirus.
