On Sunday 5th June 2015 the Scouting Memorial was officially unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The idea has been years in the making with The Scouting Memorial Project set up to raise enough money to build and maintain the monument to serve as a reminder of all members of the Scout Association, especially those who have suffered through conflict.
Six scout bands, four of which are members of or have strong ties with TYMBA, formed a massed band especially for the event. Members from Spen Valley Scout and Guide Band, Halesowen Scout Band, 17th Tonbridge Scout and Guide Band, Thurmaston Marching Brass (78th Thurmaston Scout and Guide Band) Kingston & Malden and Eastleigh all took part. One of the pieces played was the Traditional Youth Marching Bands Association’s March Past ‘Youth United’.
TYMBA Chairman Carl Nelson was one of those who took part, he said: “Today has been a great day and expert musicianship was shown.”
