What a day! This year’s Greater Manchester Marching Band Championships saw some of the best marching bands from across the country gather for a great day of competition.
Syston Scout and Guide Band and todays hosts 3rd Davyhulme Scout and Guide Band took to the arena in the Open Class with 3D and Rhyl Youth Marching Band performing in the Concert Band Contest before the main TYMBA classes got underway.
5th Leek Scout and Guide Band were the victors in Championship Class with TYMBA newcomers TS Alacrity putting on a confident performance in their first contest.
With the Trafford venue also being the host for the National Championships, with pressure was on the three bands in the National Class; Wirral Sound, Spen Valley Scout and Guide Band and Thurmaston Marching Brass who all could have taken the National League title with a win. With impressive performances all around it was Thurmaston who, for the fourth year running, lifted the silverware to be named Supreme Champions 2016 with Wirral Sound runners up.
TYMBA Chairman Carl Nelson said: “What a great day today, well done all the bands that attended and a special thanks once again to Bill Outhwaite and the team at Greater Manchester for not only hosting the day but for also allowing us to gatecrash with the Nationals. “Two contests in a day!
“Well done to all those who competed, once again proving that TYMBA is full of talent.”
