The Open Class, the class that’s not a class

For a number of years, the Traditional Youth Marching Bands Association (TYMBA) has run an ‘Open Class’ at many of its competitions. This year, Contest Organisers are repositioning the current offer.

Recognising that many bands either don’t want to compete, or maybe don’t have a complete routine – or are a concert band who don’t march, we want to make our events more inclusive.

In 2019, contests will still offer the ‘Open Class’, but it isn’t competitive. Any band may take part with a performance in which you can receive feedback.

There are no age restrictions and any style of band can enter. You can perform for up to 20 minutes:
– A musical performance with a display
– A musical static performance
– A drill display (note performance could be on grass)
A performance as a parade band

The arena is 100’x100′ unless otherwise advised. You will, unless you don’t want it, receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Gold with Honours rating based on any of the following: Overall Musical Effect, Overall Visual Effect and your Overall Performance.
